An Dolce Vita alfresco summer celebration
The Hamptons, USA
Everything about this look says high summer - it captures the essence of the holidays and specifically in Italy, the landscape where we draw our inspiration. There’s a carefree feel about this occasion, it captures the time of holiday, where there is in fact no time at all, it ebbs and flows at its own pace. Afresco dining creates it's own magic - sitting outdoors as the heat of the day surrounds you and the stars start to appear is utter bliss. Creating this look in a client's home, alongside the house and pool felt very special indeed.

This summer, we had the joy of creating a very special summer inspired tablescape for a client’s 40th birthday celebrations in the glorious Hamptons. The dinner was an intimate gathering outdoors, and we wanted the tablescape designs to capture the client’s love of Italy — warm, romantic, and full of life. Here there is no sense of time, it ebbs and flows, a fluid sense of the summer, of pure relaxation. This dinner was an alfresco set up, in the heat of the evening.
The inspiration was la dolce vita: the simple pleasures of dining al fresco, the beauty of abundant seasonal flowers, and the joy of sharing long summer evenings with friends. The linen that adorned the table featured a crisp palette of fresh greens with a weaving leaf print in a playful design. The florals which ran along the centres of the long tables were designed in soft pastels and sun-kissed tones — blush pinks, peach, buttery yellows and touches of lilac — reminiscent of gardens in full Italian bloom.
The colour palette celebrates the romance and magic of the Italian coastline. There are greens which we see in the delicate pattern of the table linen, a sky blue in the napkin and pinks in the florals. The glassware and cutlery feature amber tones, a depth that reminds us of late summer sun. The whole look is grounded with the darker chair and ties in the cutlery also – a nod to the historic nature of the spaces we’ve been inspired by.
