COME WITH US AS WE CREATE A SUMMER INSPIRED TABLESCAPE

BASKING IN THE SUMMER SUN
A snapshot of the countryside that we couldn't resist capturing as we walked past was instantly turned into a tablescape in our head. Let's call this look, 'Basking in the Summer Sun'
It’s that feeling when you sit in the English countryside, all you can hear is the birdsong, the odd plane overhead, maybe a clink of a rosé glass from a nearby lunch, the hum of a lawn being mowed. The sun is on your skin, it’s a true idyllic mood, a long lazy summer.
Everyone can tap into this feeling whether it’s harking back to those seemingly never ending school summer holidays which stretched out ahead of you in an unimaginable length of fun and carefree time or perhaps it’s just that escape from real life, maybe even for just a moment.

LET'S BRING TOGETHER THE COLOUR PALETTE
For this look, we’re going to play with colour and texture. The almost overdone cow parsley sitting against the lushness of the green grass. The tiny peppering of yellow, the hint of the blue sky and of course that electric pop of red which, whilst bright, due to the soft texture of the petals, feels soft and floaty. There’s the dark wood of the towering trees and the shade and grounding they provide and the dappled sunlight shining over it all.
This route is as much about catching the feeling as the visual and light and sound will absolutely play into the atmosphere. It needs to feel very layered.
AND ON TO THE TABLES
When it comes to the table design for this look, we have pulled together a range of items which we feel captures that fun essence of summer. The wicker/rattan seen in the chair, placemat and the napkin ring is a nod to the picnic baskets of the season. The pops of colour come through – the red inspired by the poppies is seen in the spotty water glass and the napkin ring – a little flash of colour in a fun way to mimic that carefree softness of the petals.
We see glassware in a simple design, this feels right for the tone – it wouldn’t feel out of place at a garden party and furthermore the flash of blue brings in our sky tone. We keep the linen simple but go to town with the napkin which is playful and anything but formal.
Importantly to ground the design we introduce a deep green, embossed menu with a crest paired with a heavy cream card and a traditional pattern on the plate. Finally the copper gold toned cutlery feels like it adds a sunset vibe – a richness of colour which pairs beautifully with the green of the menu.

THE VENUE FOR THIS SUMMER RECEPTION
If we had to house this look, find the perfect space for it, all we know is it must have natural light. Maybe it’s the conservatory at Syon Park or perhaps the Orangery at Kensington Palace or Kew. Maybe it’s even the Duveen Gallery at TATE Britain or Medieval Renaissance or Hintze Sculpture Gallery at the V&A. Equally this would feel so at home in a country garden at a residence in the Cotswolds.
Let us know if you'd like us to create this look for you, or if you have an image you'd like us to turn into a tablescape - we could do this all day!
