The qualities required to design and produce events in the luxury market

Good under stress
Events is ridiculously stressful and so much is totally out of your control. Think situations like 10 extra people turn up on the night who you weren’t expecting and it’s a seated dinner, the band you’re flying out for a wedding miss their flight, the venue has a fire the day before your event or the elevators break when the event space is 10 floors up. Seriously high level of stress that require amazing problem solving on the spot. It’s really intense and you need to get creative with your solutions but it’s the best feeling when you resolve it.
Great with people
Our industry is such a people industry. There are so many incredible, talented individuals you come across and they’re all so skilled in their areas. I love that on an event (using a recent genuine event as an example) we will be working with a technical lighting expert, a talented mixologist, a contortionist, a calligrapher, a singer and an oyster shucking. It’s so wonderfully diverse and exciting.
Really good with admin
90% of event planning happens before the event. There is serious laptop time required. Being all over your admin, to the point of being a little mad about it, is essential. Email traffic is high, budget amendments are coming out of your ears and it’s all a little like playing a 5D version of chess. But if you love admin and problem solving it’s amazing.
Enjoy numbers
Something that is really underestimated with events but you’ll deal with numbers day in, day out. Working out budgets, updating these regularly, negotiating, sense checking – it’s so important to be good with numbers.

Have a creative eye
For the type of events we design and produce, you need a creative eye. How will it all look together, how does it feel for the guest, does it communicate the brand messaging. We want fun and unique ideas which tap into these areas and aren’t something we’ve seen before. No pressure!
Have common sense
Wow is this one true.Common sense is so underrated but yet beyond key. We barely have time to think on site so being able to quickly use common sense to resolve situations, ensure the smooth running of the event and pivot where needed is everything.
You’ve got to like change
No two days are the same in events. Ever! We are well and truly kept on our toes every day and that’s what we absolutely love about it. But you need to enjoy change and the ever changing routine and to-do list. One minute we’re working from home, the next in the studio and the next we’re out at venues or with suppliers. It’s always full on and never boring so you have to want that lifestyle.

If you've got all the above in abundance then events really is the industry for you. It's a rich, diverse, creative and exciting space to be in and there's really nowhere we'd rather spend our days.
