The Natural History Museum feel like a pinch me type of venue to work within. So well-known and iconic, it’s impossible not to get excited about the idea of an event here. We find as well that events we have hosted within the spaces get such good attendance as guests are really excited to attend an event here after hours. There are a number of spaces within the venue and it depends on your final guest numbers and the style of your event. The largest and most iconic space is Hintze Hall – architecturally stunning and so impressive to host a dinner, wedding or reception under the mammoth skeleton of Hope the Whale. If events are hosted within this space, the reception is held beforehand in Fossil Way ahead of guests making their way into the main hall for dinner or the remainder of the evening. The space works very well for bands and DJs. Additionally, there are further spaces within the museum which can be hired – Earth Halls and the Darwin Centre being popular ones.
The Darwin Centre is such a light and bright space with cathedral height ceilings in glass. The space surrounds the impressive and huge‘Cocoon ‘which houses a permanent exhibition which guests can view during the event. Receptions work well here or dinners on one long table. The space outside is perfect for summer events – a large open courtyard. The Earth Halls have a private entrance from Exhibition Road and being a darker space, this naturally feels great for dinners with a proper party afterwards. A new space we talked about in our journal recently is the Garden Kitchen which has been created at the front of the museum within the gardens. Lush greenery, fauna and trees makes for an incredible outdoor space which then leads onto the light filled, wooden structure of the open restaurant. The space overlooks the gardens and is great for receptions and dinners. The space benefits from the incredible backdrop of the Natural History Museum building and is also accessed from the front which adds a great feeling of gravitas.
